Chaz Collect

How holding your money works

You can text a pay link before you've set up Stripe. When your customer pays, Chaz collects the money as your agent and keeps it safe until Stripe has verified who you are. Then it's sent to you. Here is exactly what happens, in plain language.

Chaz Collect is available now. Sign up, text your first pay link, and your customer can pay today, even before you've set up Stripe.

Four steps, start to finish

  1. 1

    Your customer pays

They tap the link in your text and pay by card, Apple Pay or Google Pay. The pay page says the payment is processed by Chaz for your business, and their card statement shows CHAZ* and your business name. Once they've paid, they've paid you.

  2. 2

    Chaz holds it for you

The money is kept in Chaz's own Stripe account and recorded as yours. It can only go to you, or back to your customer. You see what's waiting for you in Chaz.

  3. 3

    You verify once with Stripe

Stripe has to know who you are before it can pay you: your legal name and address, the last 4 digits of your Social Security number, a few details about your business, and where to send the money. It takes a few minutes, and you only do it once.

  4. 4

    We send it to you

As soon as Stripe confirms you, Chaz transfers every payment we're holding to your Stripe account, and Stripe pays it out to your bank on your normal schedule. From then on, new payments go straight to your own Stripe account.

How long we hold it

By default, we hold each payment for up to 90 days from the day your customer paid. If you've sent Stripe your details and they're still reviewing them when that time is up, we keep holding it until Stripe decides. You're never penalized for waiting on Stripe.

How much we hold

By default, we hold up to $1,000 for you at a time. Once you reach that, we'll ask you to verify with Stripe before we hold any more for you.

If you never verify

We text you reminders while your money is waiting, including one a week before time runs out. If you still haven't verified when the hold ends, each customer gets a full refund and a text explaining why. Chaz never keeps your customers' money.

What it costs

Your customer pays the same flat $1.75 service fee as on any Chaz payment. You pay no per-payment Chaz fee.

Why the money is safe

  • Money never leaves Chaz until Stripe has verified you.
  • Held money goes to you or back to your customer, never anywhere else.
  • Stripe processes every card payment, the same way it does once you are verified.
